With less than one week to go until the recruitment period for the Australian pavilion at Shanghai World Expo closes, Commissioner-General Peter Tesch is urging Australians to submit their applications to become part of a dynamic team of over 180 staff by the 23rd of September.
Mr Tesch said, "From waiters, chefs and venue managers, to sales
assistants and VIP receptionists; from finance managers and event
coordinators through to pavilion guides, we are looking for
enthusiastic Australians who are passionate about what they do, have a
sense of humour and who are committed to making this event a success
for Australia, Shanghai and the world".
Mr Tesch continued, "This will certainly be a once in a lifetime
opportunity. Shanghai 2010 is expected to be the biggest world expo in
history, and the scale of Australia's participation is unprecedented."
"Our team of talented, committed and focused people will be pivotal in
making Australia a 'must-see' pavilion among the 192 nations taking
part. They are also central to reinforcing positive messages about
Australia to the seven million people we expect will visit our pavilion
from May to October 2010", Mr Tesch said.
Simon Arnold, Managing Director of International Venue Group which is
coordinating the national recruitment drive to bring talented
Australians from across the country to work at the pavilion said, "We
are very pleased with the number of applications we have received thus
far and are encouraging all Australians interested in representing
their country abroad to apply quickly before the recruitment period
closes."
Mr Arnold continued, "Some positions require a degree of proficiency in
Mandarin and strong English language skills. Importantly, we are
looking for candidates who have a solid understanding of Australia and
its relations with China, along with a keen interest to be part of an
extraordinary international event."
Mr Tesch added, "We know from our experience at the 2005 Aichi World
Expo that our people are critical to our success. These on-the-ground
representatives are critical to the smooth running of the pavilion and
to ensuring that our visitors enjoy a memorable and distinctly
Australian experience".
Position information, including application forms, can also be found on the Australian pavilion website.
