The Australian pavilion has conducted a successful search for a dynamic team of over 180 staff who will work at the Australian pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. In total, over 3700 applications were received from around the world to fill a variety of positions from Payroll Officer to Sous Chef and Sommelier to Sales Assistant to Warehouse Manager.
Commissioner-General for the Australian pavilion, Peter
Tesch said "The response exceeds our expectations and certainly reinforces that
working at the Australian pavilion is seen by people in China and Australia as a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Shanghai 2010 is expected to be the biggest world expo in history, and the
scale of Australia's
participation is unprecedented."
Over 2500 applications came from Australia with every State and
Territory represented. The most sought after position was for Pavilion Guide.
The guides will welcome, direct and assist guests through the Australian
pavilion. Also popular were administration positions (Administration Officer,
VIP Receptionist, Personal Assistant, Sales Assistant positions, Event
Coordination roles and Interpreter positions.
"We know from our experience at the 2005 Aichi World Expo that our people are
critical to our success. These on-the-ground representatives are critical to
the smooth running of the pavilion and to ensuring that our visitors enjoy a
memorable, safe and distinctly Australian experience" said Mr Tesch.
Most applicants have a good level of proficiency in Mandarin and a strong
understanding of Australia.
Good language skills and a thorough understanding of Australia will ensure that the expected 7
million visitors to the Australian pavilion can engage, interact and discuss Australia as
they enjoy the pavilion exhibits.
