These inspiring women come from a broad cross-section of professions, ages, ethnic backgrounds and geographical locations. Their stories combine to highlight the theme of the Expo, "Better City, Better Life" and can be found in the building blocks of society: the economy; education; sustainability; health; food; environment; architecture; science; technology; community; and the Arts amongst others. Through their actions these women are creating the present and shaping the future, whether their work plays out on the national stage or in the local community.

Using personal narrative and observational documentary, we look into their daily lives and explore their goals and aspirations, both professional and personal, to create a strong emotional connection between the countries. As the stories progress, themes and links emerge that illustrate the bonds between the women; women's desire to nurture family and environment; a feeling of responsibility to the planet and to other people; the importance of what you learn from your parents and in turn what you want to pass on to your children; the role of leadership and the impact of education.

These stories demonstrate the ways Australian and Chinese women find ways of helping make the world a better place; raise awareness about what is possible to achieve in our society; and how individual efforts can make a difference. We find that despite the social, political and geographical divides, perhaps the differences between the two cultures are not as deep as we might think and there really is more that unites us than divides us.
