Australian Pavilion Hits 5 Million
The Australian pavilion welcomed visitor number five million through the doors this morning at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Our lucky visitor has won a holiday for herself and her family in sunny Queensland, Australia, travelling on Australia's own airline, Qantas.
The five millionth visitor, local Shanghai resident Shen Ping who was with her family at their very first pavilion on their first visit to expo, was thrilled to hear she'd won. Ms Shen had seen the Australian pavilion on television. "I chose to come to the Australian pavilion first because it looked beautiful," she said.
Commissioner-General Ms Lyndall Sachs said the record-breaking result was recognition that the Australian pavilion was one of the most popular country pavilions at this, the world's largest ever expo.
"Australia's presence at the Shanghai World Expo has enabled us to give visitors to our pavilion a small taste of the best of Australia. I am thrilled that we are able to give our five millionth visitor and her family the opportunity to experience Australia in person. Queensland is just one of the many beautiful travel destinations Australia has to offer," Ms Sachs said.
